After 52 days and a string of near misses, Tamworth’s Melissa Dennett finally has her second win as a trainer.
The Dennett-trained Rubymay settled sixth before peeling out wide around the bend at Quirindi before charging home to win by a length over Mark Cross’ Stradance in the 1200-metre TAB.com.au Benchmark 65 Handicap on Monday.
And you couldn’t wipe the smile of Dennett’s face following the victory.
“I’m just excited, I finally got a winner,” Dennett said.
”It’s been a bit frustrating, I’ve had a lot of placings.”
13 places to be exact, since she took the training reins from Tamworth-based Leon Davies.Melissa Dennett
Adding to the excitement for Dennett was the surprise of the win.
Rubymay’s races leading into Quirindi – which included a fourth at Gunnedah followed by a fifth at Muswellbrook – were a little underwhelming.
“It was a little bit unexpected as she hasn’t been racing at her best,” Dennett said.
